About Us

The Jackaroo 4WD Club of Australia Inc. was established in 1983 and was the first "Jackaroo 4WD Club" in Australia. Although based in Sydney, we have members in the Illawarra, the Blue Mountains and the Newcastle and Central Coast areas as well as interstate in Brisbane. We welcome owners/drivers with all levels of experience from "beginners" to "experienced", and are a family friendly club with quite a few members with young families. We are affiliated to 4WD NSW and ACT. We fully support and abide by their Code of Ethics. We respect both our vehicles and the environment and could, in no way be considered 'gung-ho' or 'bush-bashers'.

We are a medium sized, family friendly club with a growing membership, currently around 75. We organise and lead at least one trip each month, either on Saturdays or Sundays, or two or three day camping trips, plus occasional extended trips to various outback locations. These trips will have varying degrees of difficulty, to suit the varying level of driver experience within the Club. The Club also organises BBQ's, picnics and other social outings for club members. We also, from time to time, organise mid-week trips for those members who cannot make the week-end trips. Club trips provide a means of gaining experience and confidence to tackle outback tracks while in the company and safety of other members and also the opportunity to see vehicle accessories and camping equipment etc. in use before purchasing your own.

Our club has many lady members who actively participate in club events including driver training, trips, Committee and monthly meetings.

We do not restrict membership to Jackaroo owners; all makes and models of Four Wheel Drive vehicles are welcome. Normally, there are no restrictive conditions on membership or social events, however a minimum of "Third Party Property Insurance" is required to participate in any 4WD trip. Other conditions may apply to certain club trips or outings.

Meetings are held at the Jones Park Hall, 151 Burnett Street, Mays Hill, on the 2nd Friday of each month commencing at 7.30pm. Guest speakers on 4WD and related topics are planned for these meetings and these conclude with a light supper. No charges are applicable.

A club newsletter is produced and distributed each month and keeps members informed of club activities etc.. This is available at the meetings or mailed to those members unable to attend. Club membership also provides access to discounted parts, services and 4WD vehicle insurance etc. as well as driver training, map reading courses and technical advice and assistance, including maintenance days for those interested in the hands-on aspect of their vehicles.

The club, from time to time, is involved in community oriented activities and is proud to have been associated with the "Clean-Up-Australia Day 2000" Menai Project. This is reported as having been the largest single site clean-up in the long history of the "Clean-Up-Australia" campaign. Over 800 tonnes of rubbish, including 250 dumped vehicles, were removed from this site.

In previous years the club has participated in "Clean-Up-Australia Day" activities in the Kuringai National Park, at Castlereagh, at Fairfield as well as numerous other sites.

The club members removed an estimated one tonne of rubbish and two dumped motor vehicles from Penrose State Forest on the southern highlands during the 2004 "Clean-Up-Australia Day" in another strong display of the club's support for environmental responsibility and care.

The Club is also proud to have been associated with Fairfield City Council's "Adopt-A-Road" Scheme. We "adopted" part of the very busy Cowpasture Road at Bossley Park as our project site. Our activities in this project included tree planting and keeping the area clean and free from dumped rubbish.

We are also actively participating in the Association and NPWS MOU project at "Big Yango". We have an ongoing committment to this project and have already been involved in the erection of a number of track signs and track surveys.

Another of our community service activities relates to the clean-up and re-vegetation work on the aboriginal land at Menai.

In 2007, in conjunction with the Appin Bushland Users Group (ABUG), the club provided assistance with the clean-up and removal of many tonnes of rubbish from the Appin bushland. area. This is another one of the ongoing community service projects that the club is involved in.

At our annual tri-state event in 2008, we raised $4,000.00 which was donated to the Royal Flying Doctor Service to assist in the purchase of essential dental equipment.
