Sue, Gavin & Mykaela Cornish – T.E.C & trip reporter
We
set off from Molonglo Creek campsite at about 9:30 am
with Bendethera as our target. The aim was to see how
long it would take and to assess it’s suitability as an Easter 2008 trip.
We
arrived at the entrance at about 11.00am. We were not 100% certain of the way in but we
were thankful to a local who gave us some pointers over the radio.
The girls travelled
with Adrian & Sue and watched dvd’s
whilst Gavin was with Ken in the “blokey” car.
We
left the bitumen, aired down and locked our hubs. Being the Monday of the long
weekend traffic heading out was fairly busy and we passed 25 vehicles, some
towing trailers, on our way in. I managed to stall it on one hill due to wrong
gear selection and the comment from the back of the vehicle was “this is really
embarrassing as we can’t even get up the hill”. Correct gear selection saw us
on our way with no further incident.
We made our way to the main
camping area where we stopped for lunch. After lunch we proceeded on with a
couple of creek crossings complete with water which was a bit of a novelty.
We decided not to do the loop trip due to the time constraints
and headed out the way we came in. On the way back we stopped off at the “Big Hole”
picnic area for afternoon tea before returning to camp.
An
enjoyable day out and we returned to camp to find the others participating in
happy hour. Some members then adjourned to the local club for dinner and we
still await the payment of the bill by Phil. Ken also managed to collect yet
another club membership, we think that by Easter 2008 he’ll be a member of
every club in the Canberra region.
