It was a dark and rainy night. To mark the shortest day of the year a quick trip had been planned to Guilford Leagues Smorgasbord. The Club is located in Tamplin St.Guilford, a few kilometres south of our own meeting hall. It had rained heavily all day, making the approach to the meeting point more hazardous than usual. As I was two minutes late, and the last through the entry point, Phil gave me the trip report.

After an initial round of lubricating fluids, the convoy set out for the first gustation objective – the fearsome Seafood Hill. Prawns, mussels, octopussies, & fish were some of the more exotic species spotted, poorly camouflaged by Caesar salad and other greenery. They disappeared very quickly, and we had to look out for more, as well as keep ourselves hydrated.

Most of the convoy followed a more traditional course with lamb chops, poultry, roast beef and unidentified fried objects. These were tackled with enthusiasm, although not many went round twice. The tail end of the convoy was just gaining traction, though, and decided to tackle Seafood Hill again.

Even before this midpoint of the trip, the dust was beginning to hinder our progress, so some more fluids were applied. The chatter turned to past trips, laughter, absent friends, Tumut & finally, tractors.

The last topic took us a little bit off track. Fortunately, Wal’s navigation skills were available to us, and once he had sorted out which of the Henry Fords had taken the wrong turn between the Handshake Deal, Patent Law and Old Man Ferguson, we were back into familiar territory.

The final stages of the trip took us into wide desserts. Banana fritters, ice cream, bread & butter pudding, apple crumble, coffee and tea were some of the features taken in. Although we went looking for it, no mudcake was found,  & without Jump Out Jen Hopfe in the convoy, we really didn’t expect to see any Rocky Road either.

This final course concluded our happy trip; We’d just finished giving thanks to Phil for organising the event, and said goodnight to all for an enjoyable, trouble free trip, when Phil disappeared into the badlands of the Pokie lounge, waiting for an arranged recovery by daughter Tracey. We hope to see him again.
