"EXTREME" Operating Conditions:

The following is an extract from the Jackaroo Owner's Service Manual for the 1993 V6 UBS Series vehicles (but would probably apply to other makes/models too) and is reprinted to draw attention to recommended servicing intervals for vehicles operated under "extreme" conditions (which would apply to most off-road driving at some time or another).

This table is the only reference I could find in the manual regarding servicing of the automatic transmission fluid strainer (filter).

The table in the standard "Maintenance Plan" only refers to the automatic transmission fluid, not the strainer and, from experience, if this vital component of the automatic transmission is overlooked or neglected then you could be looking at an extremely expensive (and I really do mean extremely expensive) service/repair further down the track.

"If your vehicle operates under any of the extreme conditions listed in the following table it is recommended that some items be serviced more frequently than the intervals specified in the Maintenance Plan."

NOTE:The extra services listed below need only be used continuously if your vehicle operates continuously under the conditions specified.

If you operate under any of these conditions on a one off basis e.g. holiday trip, then an extra service should be for that period only.

As a guide, if you operate continually for a period of one month or 1,000 kilometres under any of the extreme conditions, then this could qualify for additional services.

If at any time it is considered that the following items or other items should be more frequently serviced due to the type of operation or before a long trip, discuss the situation with the dealer service manager.

C, D Change diesel engine oil every 2,500 km

C, D Replace petrol engine oil filter every 10,000 km

C, D Replace diesel engine oil filter every 5,000 km

C Change air cleaner element every 10,000 km

B Inspect steering system for looseness or damage every 5,000 km

B, C Inspect universal joints and sleeve for wear every 5,000 km

B Change manual transmission and transfer case oil every 20,000 km (after initial change at 5,000 km)

A, B, C, D Change automatic transmission fluid and strainer every 40,000 km

B Change auto transmission transfer case oil every 20,000 km (after initial change at 5,000 km)

B Change differential oil every 20,000 km (after initial change at 5,000 km)

A, B, C Inspect disc brake pads and discs every 5,000 km.
